Digital Conduct & Online Safety Standards

The Nusantara Times is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and responsible digital environment. These Cyber Guidelines outline the standards of conduct expected from all users — including readers, contributors, and staff — when interacting with our platform, content, and community.

Harassment & Bullying

Targeted attacks, threats, intimidation, or sustained negative engagement directed at any individual, whether public figure or private citizen.

Defamation

False statements presented as fact that damage the reputation of individuals, organizations, or institutions. This is a criminal offense under Indonesian law.

Content Integrity & Accuracy

We uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity. All users and contributors must adhere to the following principles:

Factual AccuracyAll content submitted or shared must be based on verifiable facts. Misinformation, disinformation, and fabricated content are strictly prohibited.
Source AttributionProperly credit all sources, data, images, and quoted material. Plagiarism in any form will result in immediate content removal and potential account suspension.
Correction PolicyIf errors are identified in published content, corrections must be issued promptly and transparently. Users who identify inaccuracies are encouraged to report them.
AI-Generated ContentAny content created or substantially assisted by artificial intelligence must be clearly disclosed. Undisclosed AI-generated content presented as original journalism is prohibited.
Editorial IndependenceContributors must not accept payment, gifts, or incentives from third parties that could compromise the objectivity or independence of their reporting.

Intellectual Property & Copyright

All content published on The Nusantara Times is protected under Indonesian copyright law (Law No. 28 of 2014 on Copyright). Users must respect the following:

Original Content

Articles, photographs, graphics, and multimedia content may not be reproduced, distributed, or republished without explicit written permission from the editorial team.

Fair Use

Limited quotation for purposes of commentary, criticism, education, or news reporting is permitted with proper attribution and a link back to the original article.

Unauthorized reproduction or distribution of our content may result in legal action. If you wish to license or republish content, please contact our editorial team.

Account Security & Responsible Use

Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their accounts and using the platform responsibly:

Prohibited Activities

The following activities are expressly prohibited on The Nusantara Times platform:

Spam & Manipulation

Posting repetitive, misleading, or commercially motivated content in comments, forums, or submissions without editorial approval.

Malicious Software

Uploading, distributing, or linking to viruses, malware, phishing sites, or any software designed to harm users or systems.

Data Harvesting

Collecting personal information of other users, including email addresses, without their explicit consent.

Platform Exploitation

Attempting to exploit vulnerabilities, bypass security measures, or interfere with the normal operation of the website.

Reporting & Enforcement

We encourage all users to report violations of these guidelines. Our moderation team reviews reports promptly and takes appropriate action:

First Violation: Warning and content removal. The user will be notified of the specific guideline violated.

Repeat Violations: Temporary account suspension (7–30 days) depending on severity.

Severe Violations: Permanent account ban and, where applicable, referral to law enforcement under Indonesian cyber law.

Appeals: Users may appeal enforcement decisions by contacting our editorial team within 14 days of the action.

Legal Framework

These guidelines are enforced in accordance with the following Indonesian regulations:

UU ITE (Amended)Law No. 1 of 2024 — Governs electronic information and transactions, including provisions on defamation, hate speech, and unauthorized access to electronic systems.
UU PDPLaw No. 27 of 2022 — Personal Data Protection law regulating the collection, processing, and storage of personal data.
UU Hak CiptaLaw No. 28 of 2014 — Copyright law protecting intellectual property rights for creative and journalistic works.
UU PersLaw No. 40 of 1999 — Press law establishing the rights, obligations, and ethical responsibilities of the press in Indonesia.
